Important facts: Arwen was one the only two Elves who ever willingly gave up her immortallity. Since the day she met Aragorn in Rivendell, she knew she was destined to marry him, even though he was a Human, therefore dooming her own life. Her father Elrond did not approve of this at all, because he did not want to part from his daughter until Aragorn proved himself worthy by reclaiming the throne of Gondor. But in the end, true love conquered (like it does in every good story).
