Important facts:  Legolas represented the Elves in the Fellowship of the Ring.  Everyone thought he was a bit strange because of his friendship with Gimli the Dwarf, a race that all Elves scorned. 

  Legolas fought bravely during the War of the Ring, and afterwards dwelt in Ithilien.
